Solar

Solar rebates in Australia

The main solar incentive is federal — the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (STCs) — which discounts eligible rooftop solar up to 100 kW. Some states add further support.

A point-of-sale discount on eligible rooftop solar up to 100 kW. The value steps down each January and the scheme is scheduled to phase out by 2030.

Victorian owner-occupiers may access additional solar and hot water rebates, subject to eligibility limits.

State efficiency schemes

Some states include solar-related or hot-water activities under their energy efficiency schemes (for example VEU heat-pump hot water).

Combine with a battery

Adding a battery may unlock the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program and, in some states, VPP incentives.

FAQ

Questions

The federal STC discount depends on system size, your location (STC zone) and the certificate price. It typically covers a meaningful share of system cost but reduces each January until the scheme ends in 2030.

Usually not directly — an accredited installer assigns the STCs and passes the discount through in your quote. You should use a Solar Accreditation Australia / CEC-accredited installer and approved products.

The STC value is shrinking each year, but rising electricity prices and battery options change the maths. We can't give financial advice — speak to an accredited provider for a quote tailored to your property.
